TURLOCK -- The Cal State Stanislaus women's soccer team completed its home schedule in style today by holding on to beat Chico State, 2-1, at the Turlock Regional Sports Complex.

Seniors Tiffani Moore and Melissa Phillips both scored for the Warriors as Stanislaus set two new team records and improved to 8-5-4 overall and 4-5-3 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

Chico State, which mounded a strong second half comeback after trailing 2-0, dropped to 7-9-3 overall and 3-7-2 in the CCAA.

With two goals on the day, the Warriors are now just one score away from tying a team record of 41 goals in a season set in 2005. Stanislaus set two records in the home finale, surpassing the team assists and points in a season marks. The 2008 Warriors now have 39 assists and 123 points this season.

"We had great possession and created a lot of great chances throughout the match," CSUS head coach Gabe Bolton said.

The Warriors' win on Friday was also historical in that it was the team's first win against Chico State at home in nine tries. CSUS also snapped a six-match winless streak against Chico State while picking up its third consecutive victory.

Stanislaus' first goal came in the 38th minute of the first half when a Allison Freels corner kick missed Phillips' head but went right to Moore, who finished off from the far side for a 1-0 lead.

In the second half, at the 51:48 mark, the corner kick from Gennaka Fox was on-target this time, finding the tall Phillips head on the far side of the box for the goal and the 2-0 lead.

Chico State staged a strong rally in the second half and finally found the back on the net on a Brittney Doty goal, set up by Melissa Lindsay and Katie McIntosh.

The Wildcats got a chance to even the score inside the two-minute mark on a free kick by Blake Lopes from about 20 yards out at the top of the box. But Lopes' shot sail high over CSUS goalkeeper Jessica Sitarz.

"I was really proud of the way we battled the entire game," Bolton said. "Chico fought for 90 minutes but we were able to raise to the occassion and turned back their opportunities."

Sitarz finished with three saves and Lauren Vance had two saves for Chico State.

The Warriors will complete their season next weekend on the road with matches at Sonoma State and Humboldt State.
