POMONA — The top two players on the Cal State Stanislaus women's tennis team are making a splash on to the Division II collegiate tennis scene. Now they will advance to face the best as the Warriors have made it an all Cal State Stanislaus-BYU Hawaii day on Saturday.

Both Verena Preikschas and Vanessa Reibstein won two matches on Friday and have advanced to the semifinals of the Wilson/ITA Small College Regional Championships. They will each face a player from the region's powerhouse BYU Hawaii on Saturday.

As a pair, Preikschas and Reibstein won twice on Friday and will play in the doubles championship match Saturday at 3 p.m. versus top seed Jenny Chin and Hewenfei Li of BYU Hawaii.

In the quarterfinals in the singles competition, Preikschas and Reibstein beat players from UC San Diego — the top squad in the California Collegiate Athletic Association — to advance in the tournament. Preikschas defeated Valerie Tang while Reibstein beat Kimmie Dao.

Dao is seeded No. 8 for the tournament and is a returning All-CCAA player from the UCSD squad that has won five consecutive CCAA titles. On Thursday, Reibstein defeated No. 4 seed Stephanie Luk of Sonoma State.

Freshman Katie Eng also played in the quarterfinals, but lost to Jenny Chin, the No. 2 seed in the draw.

Preikschas' semifinal opponent will be Li, the No. 2 player in NCAA Division II following the 2007-08 season. Chin, who was ranked 47th in Division II last year, is Reibstein's opponent. BYU Hawaii, was ranked No. 1 last year until the Seasiders lost in the semifinals. BYUH has won seven national championships since 1999.

In Friday's doubles competition, Preikschas and Reibstein, the No. 4 seeded team, easily handled Cal Poly Pomona's duo of Kaitlin Wooldridge and Jackie Trendt, 8-1. Preikschas and Reibstein then beat Pomona's other squad of Jennifer Chow and Fallon Blattner, 8-4, to advance to the championship tilt.

Three Cal State Stanislaus women's tennis players had advanced earlier today to the quarterfinal round after Preikschas, Reibstein and Eng all winning their singles matches this morning.

Preikschas defeated Sonoma State's Jeanette Peck, 6-1, 6-0; Reibstein beat Mallory Brady of Cal Poly Pomona, 6-0, 6-0; and Eng defeated Dixie State's Ashley Lafeen, 7-6, 6-2. Brady is a returning All-CCAA second team player from a year ago.

Lexy Harrington lost her match Friday morning to Ina Dan, 6-0, 6-2. Dan of UC San Diego made the All-CCAA team two years ago and was the CCAA Freshman of the Year.
