CHICO — Heavy rain and winds cause Chico State to shorten the InterWest Chico State Invitational with only tiebreakers for the top four spots were played on Tuesday.

Sylvester Gama of Chico State stayed red hot and defeated Holy Names’ Stephan Edman with a par on the second playoff hole to earn medalist honors to wrap up the tournament at Butte Creek Country Club Tuesday morning.

Gama and the Wildcats shared the team title, the first at their host tournament since 2004, with Holy Names University. They each carded 3-over par 579s, which was 11 strokes better than Cal State Stanislaus and Saint Martin’s.

Gama and Edman and Olof Rosborg of Saint Martin’s and Bryan Kiss of Cal State Stanislaus (for fourth place) were the only golf played Tuesday due to wet and windy conditions.

With medalist honors on the line, Gama and Edman played the par-4, 405-yard opening hole. They each parred it the first time around, and Gama’s par the second time was enough for victory. Kiss also won his playoff with Rosborg for fourth place the second time they played the first hole.

The Wildcats’ Kyle Souza finished third at 1-under par thanks to his 69 in Monday’s second round.

Kiss shot a pair of 72s on Monday as the Warriors were in a two-way tie for third as a team, 11 shots behind co-leaders Chico State and Holy Names University.

Saint Martin's also had a team score of 590 to tie with the Warriors in fourth. Cal State Monterey Bay is fifth at 594 in the 15-team field.

Danny Hoff had a pair of 74s for a four-over 148 and tied for 12th with teammate Trevor Blair. Teddy Schrier and J.T. Cockerill were both 26th with 151 scores.
