SANTA ROSA — With a strong team score of 289 on Tuesday, the Cal State Stanislaus men's golf team moved up three spots to finish fifth at the weather-shortened Sonoma State Men's Golf Invitational at the Santa Rosa Golf Course.
Bryan Kiss scored an even par 72 in round two to finish with a one-under 143 in the 36-hole tournament hosted by Sonoma State on the par 72, 6711-yard course. Kiss placed fifth, five strokes behind individual medalist Matthew Garcia of Academy of Art (68-70).
Chico State finished first with two players in the top three with a team total of 578, Dixie State was second, followed by Saint Martin's and Western Washington both with 585. The Warriors shot a 587 total over two days. It was Chico State's third consecutive win at this tournament.
After battling rain most of Monday with a 298, Stanislaus rebounded with the 289, the day's second-best team score. Both Chico State and Dixie State shot 286 on Tuesday.
Danny Hoff finished tied for 13th (76-70-146), #J.T. Cockerill# was 23rd (75-73-148) and
Teddy Schrier shot 76-74-150 for 33rd.
Trevor Blair rounds out the Warriors score with 76-77-153 scores for 49th.
This the second straight week that the Warriors played just two rounds in a tournament. Last week's InterWest Chico Wildcats Classic was also shortened to 36 holes due to weather. The Warriors will play in a Division I tournament next week when they travel to Simi Valley to participate in the Bill Cullum Invitational hosted by Cal State Northridge.
