TURLOCK — The Cal State Stanislaus women's soccer team put on a late surge, but visiting Sonoma State held on for a 2-1 win Sunday in the Warriors' final home match of the season.

Danielle Lovato scored her first career goal in the 84th minute for Stanislaus but the Warriors dropped their eighth one-goal decision this season to fall to 8-9-1 overall and 4-9-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

"I'm very proud of our effort and the level of play. We created a lot of opportunities today. Unfortunately they hit the cross bar and the post rather than going in," CSUS head coach Gabe Bolton said.

Katie Parucha and Sara Studer scored goals for Sonoma State, 7-8-3, 5-6-3 CCAA.

The Warriors completed their home schedule on Sunday with senior day recognizing Alena Smajlagic and Jessica Sitarz appearing in their final home contest. Cal State Stanislaus will finish off the 2009 season next weekend on the road at Cal State Monterey Bay and San Francisco State.

Parucha opened the scoring in the 15th minute on a strike inside the box past Sitarz to her right to give Sonoma State the 1-0 lead. Her goal was assisted by Allison Kern.

The Seawolves made it 2-0 at 74:19 when Sara Studer headed in a shot by Marissa Shaw that hit the cross bar.

With the Warriors attacking for much of the latter part of the second half, Lovato was able to hit a hard shot from the top of the box to pull Stanislaus within one. Smajlagic assisted on the play after turning her defender around with nice dribbling.

"Alena battled very hard to get that ball to Dee and she absolutely buried it," Bolton said.

Stanislaus continued its attack in the final minutes of the match but came up just short.

Sitarz picked up five saves for the Warriors.

"We are really going to miss Jess and Alena. They have been great Warriors," added Bolton.
