TURLOCK — Lisa Garcia scored her third goal of the weekend and Apryl Whitney scored a goal and had two assists on the day as the Cal State Stanislaus women's soccer team defeated Cal State Monterey Bay, 3-0, Sunday at Warrior Stadium.

The Warriors picked up their second straight shutout to improve to 7-6-0 overall and 3-6-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. Monterey Bay falls to 2-8-2, 1-6-1.

Garcia, who scored twice in Friday's 2-0 win over San Francisco State, got the Warriors on the board early needing just 62 seconds to score. Two nice passes from Whitney and Bernadette Bettencourt set up the scoring play for Garcia.

"We came out and played very sharp. Our possession was very good and we created a lot a great chances throughout the match," CSUS head coach Gabriel Bolton said. "We wanted to be very aggressive offensively. Our mentality was fantastic!"

With today's goal, Garcia now has eight on the season and is now tied for third in the single season career list. Sne is also in the top 10 in single season points, career points and career goals in the Stanislaus record book.

Whitney, a freshman from Modesto playing against her sister Makayla who is a junior midfielder for CSUMB, scored the Warriors' second goal at 20:15. Jade Adamson and Garcia both assisted on the play with Adamson serving from the far side to Garcia for a short pass to Whitney for the finish.

Whitney then connected with Bettencourt just 13 seconds into the second half to put Stanislaus up 3-0.

"Apryl was extremely dynamic. She helps us link everything together. She did that today," Bolton added.

The Warriors controlled the pace of the match for the entire 90 minutes and dominated play. Offensively CSUS out-shot the Otters, 15-4.

"Our defense had a good flow and really anticipated the game well. It was great to post another shutout," Bolton said.

Cal State Stanislaus next plays on Saturday, Oct. 10, when the Warriors host Chico State at 7 p.m.
