WALNUT CREEK — Cal State L.A. reaped the fruits of victory as it placed six players on the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) all-conference team that was announced on Thursday. The Golden Eagles landed the Most Valuable Offensive Player of the Year, Most Valuable Defensive Player of the Year, Co-Freshman of the Year and Coach of the Year.

Cal State Stanislaus forward Lisa Garcia, who led the CCAA in scoring with 11 goals overall in 2009, was named to the second team. Garcia is a junior from Manteca. She set a new CSUS single-season record in goals in a season and tied for points in a season with 27.

Junior forward Liz Franco (Most Valuable Offensive Player), senior midfielder Amanda Matthews (Most Valuable Defensive Player), Ann Marie Tangorra (Co-Freshman of the Year) and Chris Chamides (Coach of the Year) were all Golden Eagles who earned individual honors.

UC San Diegos Jessica Wi shared Co-Freshman of the Year honors and Cal State Dominguez Hills forward Britney Vance was tabbed Newcomer of the Year.

Wi was one of seven UC San Diego players that earned all-conference honors. The Tritons placed a league-high tying three players on the first team as sophomore goalkeeper Kristin Armstrong, sophomore midfielder Anne Wethe and junior defender Lisa Bradley were recognized.

Chamides guided Cal State L.A. to a 15-2-2 overall record, 12-2-2 conference mark and the CCAAs South Division title. The Golden Eagles will be the No. 1 seed in this weeks conference championship tournament. It marks the first coach of the year honor for Chamides, who has twice been honored as the CCAAs mens coach of the year.

Cal State Dominguez Hills had five players earn all-conference honors, including sophomore forward Jessica Murphy who was a first-team selection.
