SACRAMENTO — In its first preseason exhibition of the 2009 season, the Cal State Stanislaus women's soccer team used tough defense and great goalkeeping to hold Division I Sacramento State scoreless.

Goalkeepers Millie Brown and Jessica Sitarz each had three saves and despite allowing 21 shots -- six of them on goal, the Warriors played the Hornets to a 0-0 draw Sunday at Hornet Soccer Field.

"We have been working on our defending all week. I was pleased with our organization and effort," CSU Stanislaus head coach Gabriel Bolton said. "Mille had a fantastic save on a breakaway in the first half and Jess really stepped up with a big save in the second half and organized everything very well."

In the 34th minute, Sac State senior Kim Kemper dribbled through defenders on the right side of the box and pushed a shot toward the near post that was stopped impressively by Brown, who reached back across her body to make the save.

Brown made the start at the net with Sitarz playing the second half and the two overtime periods.

The two teams finished even in fouls with six a side, while the Hornets were unable to capitalize on a five corner kick advantage (10-5).

Lisa Garcia led the Warriors with three shots while seven other had one shot a piece. Three of the shot were on goal.

"Our back line was fantastic. Jade (Adamson) absolutely owned the flank. Holly Johnson really played well in her first collegiate game," Bolton said.

The Warriors will be in action again in a scrimmage against a team of former players on Saturday before an exhibition contest versus Dominican on Sunday in the new Warrior Stadium.
