TURLOCK — Under the lights, the Cal State Stanislaus opened the new Warrior Stadium in style.

Marissa Dunaway scored a goal and assisted on another as the Warriors defeated Dominican University 2-0 in an exhibition match Sunday night. Bernadette Bettencourt scored a first half goal to give Stanislaus an early 1-0 lead.

"What a great soccer environment this was tonight. We have a great facility and the fans are out to support us on a Sunday night. We are very lucky," Stanislaus head coach Gabriel Bolton said.

The contest was the first match under the lights at the new 2,100-seat Warrior Stadium. It followed the men's 3-2 win over Dominican as part of the doubleheader. More than 530 season tickets were sold for the inaugural season of Warrior Stadium. Sunday night also saw more than 200 fans with walk-up tickets.

Dunaway's goal came in the 75th minute on a double-assisted play when Jade Adamson placed a pass from mid-field to the rightside to Rachel Naranjo. With a lot of speed, Naranjo blew past her defender and crossed the ball to Dunaway for the finish.

"(Rachel) did a great job of creating opportunities with her speed and did what we asked her to do," Bolton said of Naranjo.

Bettencourt's score, which came in the 32nd minute of the first half, was assisted by Dunaway. Dunaway was the team's leading scorer in 2008 and tied a CSUS freshman record with 18 points (7 goals, 4 assists).

The Warriors out-shot the Penguins 13-5, including a 9-2 advantage in the second half. Stanislaus also dominated in the corner kicks category, 5-1.

Warrior goalkeeper Mille Brown had three saves, including a great diving stop late in the second half to preserve the shutout.

Cal State Stanislaus opens the regular season in the first official inaugural match contest next Thursday when the Warriors host Hawaii Hilo at 5 p.m.
