SACRAMENTO — Running against Division I athletes,
Dawson Vorderbruegge and
Joey Nunes were among the top 20 at Sacramento State's Hornet Jamboree at the Granite Regional Park on Saturday.
Vorderbruegge finished 13 in 20:26 in the men's 4-mile run, edging teammate Nunes who finished 16th in 20:35. As the team, the Warriors finished sixth among eight teams, including finishing ahead of Division I St. Mary's.
"It was a strong race by our teams running against mostly Division I runners," CSUS head coach Diljeet Taylor said.
The field for the 2009 Jamboree included men's and women's teams from Sacramento State, UC Davis, San Francisco, California, Fresno State, San Jose State and Cal State Stanislaus. The women's race will also include Nevada, Pacific and Sonoma State.
In the women's 5K, Denali Foldager clocked 18:49 to finish 27th and Rubye Foldager was 46th in 19:27. The team finished eighth, just ahead of University of the Pacific.
Both Denali Foldager and Nunes were named CCAA Cross Country Runners of the Week this last Monday after winning the Cal State Monterey Bay Invitational a week ago.
