TURLOCK — Both the Cal State Stanislaus men's and women's cross country teams successful defend "home turf" on Saturday as they won the 2009 Stanislaus Invitational on the campus course.

Joey Nunes led the Warrior men as the top collegiate finisher while Denali Foldager was top collegiate female runner to finish to lead the women's team.

Saturday's times were faster than last year's times posted on the same course of the same event for both sides.

Cal State Stanislaus won the men's competition with 32 points ahead of Fresno Pacific (88) and Cal State Monterey Bay (103). Los Positas College (116), UC Merced (140) and Simpson (176) round out the men's team race.

Nunes finished in 25:49 to finish second behind former Warrior Jose Morales (25:43). Nunes' time on this course last year was 27:08 with the 2008 winning time of 26:27. Nunes was followed by teammate Dawson Vorderbruegge, who closed 26:18. Nunes and Vorderbruegge figured to be the top two Stanislaus runners on the men's side this season.

The next three Warrior men came in 11th through 13th with Ivan Bojorquez, Shane Brookshire and Kanwar Dhaliwal.

On the women's side, the Warriors beat out Sonoma State, 32-49, to win the event for the third straight year on the campus course. Cal State Monterey Bay and University of the Pacific followed with Simpson, Holy Names and UC Merced rounding out the field.

Foldager was the top collegiate finisher for the second of three races this season in a time of 23:22. She finished 10 seconds behind Ana Mendez an unattached runner. Foldager, who won the Cal State Monterey Bay Invitational on Sept. 5, edged Sonoma State's Rachel Borg (23:29).

Foldager's time in 2008 was 25:51 with the winner last year clocking in at 24:36 (April Montgomery). Andrea Johnson also posted a sub-24 time with a 23:39 in fourth place and Rubye Foldager was seventh in 24:09. Mary Courtright (9th, 24:22) and Chelsea Deerinck (10th, 24:25) also finished in the top 10.
