Schrier's fourth place finish leads Warriors

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Teddy Schrier finished strong on Tuesday, much like how he finished last year and how he played this summer.

The sophomore from Atwater carded a 69 to finish fourth at the 38th annual Western Washington Invitational at the Bellingham Golf and Country Club, hosted by Western Washington University.

As a group, the Cal State Stanislaus men's golf team had the second-best total on the day with a 281 to rally to a sixth place finish in the 14-field tournament. The three-round total for the Warriors was 868.

The Warriors finished behind Dixie State, which had a monstrous day with a 275 team score to win the tournament. Stanislaus finished two shots behind host WWU and one back of Hawaii Hilo. British Columbia (859) and Chico State (861) were second and third, respectively.

"Teddy worked hard this summer. He was consistent for two days and is playing well this early in the season," CSUS head coach John Cook said.

Schrier improved with each round after a 71 to open on Monday. Monday afternoon he shot a 70 on the par-72, 6561-yard course and finished the event with a 69 on Tuesday. His 69 was was only one of seven under 70 scores on the day. Individual medalist Kyle Chappell of Dixie State carded a 65 for a 208 finish. Chappell won the playoff over teammate Cameron Crawford.

During the summer Schrier won the USGA Amateur Qualifying Sectional Tournament in Stockton and went on to play in the U.S. Amateur tournament in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Danny Hoff also played well  on Tuesday to rally back for a 12th place finish. Hoff shot a 68 on Tuesday for a 217 total. Trevor Blair (222), Bryan Kiss (223) and #J.T. Cockerill# (226) were the other Warrior golfers.

The Warriors fell behind early with a 301 first round score but made their usual comeback Monday afternoon to sit at eighth place entering the final day.
