OJAI -- Verena Preikschas and Katie Eng pulled off an upset in the quarterfinal round and will get a rematch of last year's semifinals at the 110th annual Ojai Valley Tennis Tournament.

After beating conference foes Dora Kiss and Linda Majzlikova of Cal State L.A., 7-5, 6-2, in the first match today, the Warriors' top doubles team battled Chapman's Kelly Fox and Liz Lewis.

Preikschas-Eng, the seventh seed in the draw, dropped the first set 6-3, but responded with a strong 6-1 win in set two. They finished off the upset over the fourth-seeded team with a loud 10-2 super-tiebreaker win to advance.

The win setup a rematch of last year's semifinal showdown between Preikschas-Eng and Fresno Pacific's Vanessa Heroux and Katia Sabate. Heroux and Sabate, again seeded No. 1, won the tournament last April after beating the Warriors duo, 6-2, 6-1 in the semifinals.

Preikschas also advanced to Saturday's round in singles competition. She upset No. 3 Jennifer Sher of Conordia, 6-2, 6-4 and will face No. 7 Sheryl Bon of Azusa Pacific in a quarterfinal match at 9:30 a.m. Sher was the singles champion at this tournament last spring.

Vanesa Reibstein and Arina Polovnikova had the other victory on Friday with an impressive upset 6-1, 6-4 win over Jamie Solomon and Kara Wang of Pomona-Pitzer.

Reibstein dropped a close match in singles play to Cal State L.A.'s Dora Kiss, 7-5, 7-6 (5) and was part of the duo, with teammate Polovnikova in a 6-0, 6-3 loss to No. 3 doubles team of Kristin Strimple and Ashley LItchfield from Pt. Loma Nazarene.
