Two track stars to compete at Nationals today

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field National Championships begin today at the Irwin Belk Complex on the campus of Johnson C. Smith University. Two of the five Cal State Stanislaus Warriors will be in action today in preliminary races.

Derrhea McLiechey competes in the second heat of the 400-meter dash at 6:10 p.m. Eastern time while Denali Foldager takes off at 7:10 p.m. in the first heat of the women's 3000-meter steeplechase.

McLiechey, was named CCAA Newcomer of the Year award honor and a strong meet at the conference championships, qualified at No. 15  in the 400. Her quickest time of the year was 55.45 seconds recorded at the CCAA Championships in La Jolla on May 6.

McLiechey will have to either finish first in her heat or have the next five fastest times to advance to Saturday's finals.

Foldager made the trip with the 16th best time in the steeplechase. She clocked 10:46.22 at the CSUS Twilight Qualifier on May 14 at Al Brenda Track at Warrior Stadium.

To advance to Saturday's finals, Foldager will have to finish in the top four of her heat or have one of the next four fastest times.

Women's pole vault gets is schedule for Friday at 5:05 p.m. Eastern time with both Annie Burlingham and Alycia Wagner competing. Burlingham is trying to pick up her second All-American honor as she placed sixth at Indoor Nationals in March.

The two are also trying to continue the success of the Stanislaus Pole Vault program. The Warriors have had seven All-Americans (with Chaunte Mitchell winning two national championships), in the sport since 2003.

Kasey Burlingham will defend his title in men's pole vault on Saturday at 5:45 p.m. He entered the meet ranked No. 2 behind Ryan Brown of Western Washington.
