LA JOLLA — Kasey Burlingham repeated as the CCAA champion in pole vault as he led the Cal State Stanislaus men's track and field team to a solid fourth place finish at the CCAA Championships on the campus of UC San Diego on Saturday.

Similar to what he did last year, Burlingham picked a great time to peak this season as he cleared a seasonal best 16 feet, 10 3/4 inches to win the event for the second consecutive year. The defending NCAA national champion now ties Ryan Brown of Western Washington as the top ranked pole vaulters in the nation for 2010.

Burlingham's continuing success shall not over-shadow the rest of the team's excellent efforts as three other individuals, as well as the men's 4x400 relay team, got on the podium to receive All-CCAA honors with top three finishes.

"It was a very good day, an emotional day for us before everyone on the team pour their heart out and gave it their 110 percent," Stanislaus head coach Geoff Bradshaw said. "That's all a coach can ask for is for the student-athletes to gave it their all. They did and exceeded expectations."

As a team, the Warriors finished fourth after a day-long see-saw battle with Cal Poly Pomona for third. Chico State won the team title with 290.5 points, UC San Diego was third with 140 and Cal Poly Pomona third (130). Stanislaus scored 103.5 points, beating out Cal State L.A. (98) and Humboldt State.

The men's 4x400 relay team of Terry Gross, Terrance Ellis, Jesse Ooten and Jerome Johnson finished second in the event with a season-best time of 3:15.26.

In triple jump, Luther Bell went from the back of the pack to leaped to a second place showing with his final jump of the day. His final mark was a personal best 45-7 1/4. He finished behind the CCAA's top male track athlete Josh Como of Cal State L.A. Como recorded a 52-11.

In high jump, Abdullah Dosu was third with a clearance of 6-5 while Conrad Deavellar tossed the discus a seasonal best of 145-4 to reached the podium in third place.

Other notable performances included a pair of fourth place marks by the 4x100 relay time (42.77 seconds) and Ellis' run in the 800-meter race (1:52.88) that put him on the provisional qualifying mark, currently in 31st.

Johnson also ran a season-best in the 400-meter dash in 49.73 while Gross clocked 48.84 in the 400 to finish fifth. Ooten's season-best 22.35 in the 200-meter dash was good for fifth place on Saturday. Ooten also placed fifth in the 100 (11.26 seconds)

Also in pole vault, Connor Birtwhistle had a huge personal top performance by clearing 13-9 3/4 to finish seventh. His previous best was 12-6.
