TURLOCK — Cal State Stanislaus men's soccer and the Turlock Youth Soccer Association (TYSA) are coming together for a fun-filled community event to signal the start of the season.

In cooperation with the City of Turlock Parks and Recreation Department, the Warriors and TYSA are inviting the public to attend the annual Kickoff Carnival on Aug. 21. The carnival is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Warrior Stadium, on the campus of California State University Stanislaus.

The event will feature many fun activities for sports enthusiasts of all ages including bounce houses, dunk tank, face painting and other carnival games, as well as music and entertainment. Area coaches will participate in a clinic with Cal State Stanislaus men's soccer head coach Dana Taylor. The Turlock Tornados is also conducting a players' clinic.

“This is a great opportunity for Cal State Stanislaus and our community to have a fun-filled day here at Warrior Stadium,” Taylor says. “We are looking forward to this relationship with TYSA and the city as we work together to promote soccer in our area.”

Admission to the carnival is free to attendees with a canned food donation, which benefits food banks in our community. Parking is also free on the designated lots near Warrior Stadium.

Cal State Stanislaus kicks off its 2010 season on Sept. 4 at 4:30 p.m. with a non-conference match against Western Washington as part of the Warriors' 11-match home schedule. Season tickets for all 21 men's and women's home matches are now for sale.

Warrior Stadium is in its second season of operation and is the host site of the 2010 CCAA Men's & Women's Soccer Championships on Nov. 5-7.
