Warriors sting Sac State in exhibition

8/19/2011 4:54:00 PM

SACRAMENTO — It may be an exhibition contest, but it gave the Warriors a boost early in the preseason as the Cal State Stanislaus men's soccer team took a 1-0 decision from Sacramento State on Friday.

Arturo Pulido knocked in the game-winner with less than three minutes left in regulation to give the Warriors the victory over the Division I program. It was the teams first meeting since 1994.

Pulido scored on a free kick from just outside of the box on the near side.

"I am really pleased with the efoort our boys gave today. It was exciting to see so many new faces do so well on the day," Stanislaus head coach Dana Taylor said. "To be five days into our preseason and still have a week and a half to learn about ourselves is exciting."

The Warriors out-shot the Hornets 12-10 in the contest. Eight of the Stanislaus shots were on goal. Starting goalkeeper Bill Hambelton made four saves.

"This was something solid to start with and now we will get better," Taylor said.
