FRESNO — The Cal State Stanislaus women's track and field team began its indoor season today as the Warriors took part at the Run for the Dream Invitational at the Save Mart Center, hosted by Fresno State.
Among many season-debut highlights was the performance of newcomer Sian Morgan, who finished third in the pole vault by clearing 11-feet, 10 1/2 inches in her first collegiate meet. She finished behind two Cal Poly athletes with Siera Hearne winning with a 13-1/4.
Some of the distance runners fared well on Friday as well. Alyssa Thiele finished third in the 3000-meter run in a time of 10:48.34, which is now the second best time on the CSUS all-time list.
In the 800-meter run, Rachel Naranjo placed third in 2:25.03, just six seconds behind winner Anniya Louis of USC. Courtney Anderson clocked 5:45.41 to finish sixth in the Mile Run. In the high jump, Rio Schwalbach cleared 5-1/4 for 10th with just one other Division II athlete ahead of her. She also placed seventh in the triple jump (34-1/4).
Former basketball standout Katie Busi competed in the shot put and weight throw. Busi threw 34-4 3/4 in the shot (12th) and 42-2 3/4 in the weight-throw (15th).
