Warriors look to extend streak at home

The Cal State Stanislaus Warriors hope they can remain on the winning side of the scoreboard as the Warriors look to extend a three-game winning streak with a pair of home games.

This Week's Opponents

Friday, Jan. 27, 7:30 p.m.
Humboldt State LUMBERJACKS (12-4, 8-4 CCAA)

Series Notes: Humboldt State holds a 37-29 all-time series record over Cal State Stanislaus. HSU is also 11-1 against the Warriors during CCAA play. The Warriors beat Humboldt State Dec. 4, 2010 in Turlock.

The Last Time We Met... was on Dec. 19, 2011, in Arcata. Humboldt State shot 50 percent from the field (62.5 percent in the first half) in a 91-76 win. Vince Fuller scored 15 points to lead Stanislaus. Reggie Jones played just 13 minutes due to injury.

About the Lumberjacks: Humboldt State has won five straight (including three road games) … They are coming off a four-point win at CSUSB and one-point win at UCSD … The Lumberjacks are second in the CCAA in scoring (76.1) … Brandon Sperling leads with 13.3 points per game (sixth in CCAA).

Saturday, Jan. 28, 7:30 p.m.
Sonoma State SEAWOLVES (6-10, 4-8 CCAA)

Series Notes: Sonoma State has a 42-35 advantage over the Warriors. They are also 18-9 during CCAA play but Cal State Stanislaus won the last game.

The Last Time We Met... was on Dec. 17, 2011, in Rohnert Park. The Warriors beat the Seawolves, 73-61. Reggie Jones scored 16, Vince Fuller had 15 and Brett Sayad added 11 points to lead the Warriors.

About the Seawolves: Sonoma State ranks fourth in scoring among CCAA teams with a 72.9 points per game average. The Seawolves have the best shooting percentage (.467) in the CCAA … Steven Pratt leads the conference with 5.7 assists per game … SSU is 4-1 in its last five games (lost 63-62 at UCSD) … Will Olsem averages 13.0 points per game.

Successful Road Trip
The Warriors are coming off two huge wins on the road last weekend with a 70-52 win at Cal State Monterey Bay and a 93-82 victory at Cal State East Bay.

Offensive Showdown
The expected offensive showdown in Hayward turned out in favor of the Warriors as they scored a season-high 93 points. It was the Warriors' best shooting night (.545 FG%) since Dec. 29 versus Dominican (.556). Stanislaus also enjoy the best free throw shooting night (29-for-33, .879) since making all 20 attempts in game one of the season against Pacifica College … All of this followed a solid night at Cal State Monterey Bay, where the Warriors shot 49 percent (53.8 in the first half) in a game they led by as many as 24 points late in the second half.

Jones Puts Up Another 30
For the third time this season, Reggie Jones scored in the 30s as he did Saturday night at Cal State East Bay. Jones was 9 of 16 from the field and converted on 12 of his 14 free throw attempts. He scored 31 on Jan. 6 against UC San Diego and 30 versus Cal Poly Pomona on Dec. 1.  Jones had 13 points in one half of play on Friday at Cal State Monterey Bay (he also had 7 rebounds, two blocked shots and two assists).

More Offensive Fire Power?
This week's doubleheaders at Fitzpatrick Arena features three of the top four scoring teams in the conference. The Warriors (third at 74.7 points per game) match up against Humboldt State (second, 76.1 ppg) and Sonoma State (fourth, 72.9 ppg).

Look at the CCAA Standings!
Cal State Stanislaus is in the mix of the CCAA standings as seven conference teams are within a game of each other. Five teams are in first at 8-4 with Cal State L.A. and Cal State Stanislaus following at 7-5. The top eight teams qualify for the CCAA tournament with the first four teams hosting a first round game on Feb. 28.

Daviess Heating Up
One of the best three-point shooters in the CCAA is finally heating up. Dan Daviess, who was 17-for-46 prior to last week, made seven three-pointers (7-for-15) in two games. He notched a career-high with 18 points on Friday (at CSUMB) and followed with 13 points on Saturday (at CSUEB) to average 15.5 per game. He is now 24-for-61 (.393) from the three-point line, second only to Brett Sayad (27-for-61).

Sawyer's Solid Weekend
Ronnie Sawyer also had a nice weekend with a pair of double-digit scoring games. He scored 11 on 5 of 8 shooting Friday and added to it 19 points on 6 of 11 shooting Saturday. He also pulled 11 rebounds against Cal State East Bay.
