Throughout the spring, four tennis student-athletes committed to attend CSU Stanislaus and play tennis as head coach Verek Visaraga introduces the incoming freshmen class of Alexis Barcellos, J'Ana Diamond, Jessica Laurie, and Analyssa Tallas.
All four new Warriors won various championships and will add to the Cal State Stanislaus women's tennis roster depth starting in the Fall of 2013.
"These are four very talented freshmen players coming in and they will challenge our returning players to compete and improve," Visaraga said.
Barcellos headlines the list of this group as a Central Valley standout. At Los Banos High School, Barcellos is a two-time conference individual champion with an impressive 89-12 overall record in four years of varsity play. The four-time all-league selection in tennis also earned all-league honors in basketball and softball.
Visaraga is also bringing two of the elite high school players from Southern California in Diamond and Tallas.
Diamond is the league's player of the year at West Hills High School in Santee, Calif., near San Diego. She helped her high school team to two league championships and is coming off an appearance in the title match of the Surf & Turf Jr. Open in Del Mar.
Northridge's Tallas has been titled the most decorated girls tennis player in her area after winning three CIF doubles championships with her partner and contributed to four sectional team championships at Granada Hills High School.
One of the best high school players from Oregon is also coming to Turlock to join the Warriors.
Laurie of Eugene, Ore., was a three-time state tournament qualifier and is currently ranked as the fourth ranked prep player in the state of Oregon. She's also ranked 10th in all of the Northwest. Laurie won the singles championship as a junior at Sheldon High School before passing up her senior year to work individually to prepare for collegiate tennis.
These four freshmen will join five returning Warriors from the 2012-13 this Fall to add to a solid team with depth.
