For the second straight year a student-athlete was named as the top graduate as
Kenny Mashinchi received the
Geiger-Metzger Award, presented to the graduating student with the highest undergraduate grade-point average in courses completed at CSU Stanislaus.
Mashinchi, a communications studies major, was among the 2,800 graduates at the 53rd annual commencement on Thursday and Friday. Mashinchi, who was a member of the men's basketball team, completed his academic career with a 4.0 grade point average.
The senior from Modesto's Central Catholic High School was also the Warriors' scholar-athlete of the year. He also received one of the CCAA Hal Charnofsky Memorial Award for his overall excellence in community and campus involvement while excelling in both athletics and academics.
Last year, Verena Preikschas Boga of women's tennis, received the prestigous Geiger-Metzger Award.
Earlier in the month, Mashinchi was the recipient of the Carol Burke Memoria Award at the annual Student Leadership Awards, where the Student Athlete Advisory Committee was once again awarded the Student Organization Award of Excellence while cheerleader
Amanda Rosas earned the Miriam V. & John L. Keymer Memorial Award.
