Warriors win doubles championship at inaugural invitational

TURLOCK — In a see-saw battle between the top two seeded doubles teams in the tournament, Stanislaus duo J'Ana Diamond and Jessica Laurie successfuly held-off the Sonoma State to win the 2014 Warrior Tennis Invitational doubles championship.

Diamond and Laurie, the top seed, beat No. 2 seeed Kaitlyn Haithcock and Jordyn Kearney of Sonoma State, 8-6, on Sunday to capture the title.

The doubles contest was again highly competitive and tightly matched with the Warriors took an early lead before Haithcock and Kearney rallied to tie the match at 4-4. The teams traded points until the Warriors pulled ahead.

Diamond and Laurie captured their first tournament win as a team, in their second season together.

In the consolation match, Warriors Analyssa Tallas and Jessica Stokes fell to Dominican's Solveig Karlsen and Chloe Vicari, 8-1.

In singles play, Haithcock won the Flight A title by posting a 6-4, 6-1 win over top seeded Rickimae Torres. Haithcock was seeded fourth. Jessica Laurie of Stanislaus won the consolation by default with Gianna Cupo pulling out due to injury.

Dominican's Kelly Zwicker won the Flight B singles finals match, over Mariann Burkich of Sonoma State, 6-3, 6-4.
